Southwest Airlines has firmed up options for 16 Boeing 737 MAX 7 aircraft, with the Dallas-based major set to take eight frames in 2022 and the other eight in 2023. These 737 MAX 7s will be used to replace aging Boeing 737-700s.

Southwest now has 250 737 MAX 7 orders outstanding, with deliveries planned to begin early next year after type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Southwest has 69 737 MAX 8s on property and 149 outstanding orders for that type as well.
